Japan hosts 2019 G20
Published time: June 27, 2019 13:57 GMT + 3
The annual G20 Summit is this year being held in Japan's Osaka. A multilateral organisation, the G20 (Group of Twenty) includes member states of Russia, China, Japan, and 17 others, including the EU.
Topics are expected to include a number of economic issues and one of these is the WTO reform.
In the last year, much discussion and debate has focused on the unilateral trade measures imposed by the USA on other countries, the expressed wish by some to reform the WTO (World Trade Organisation) and politically, at times, on an increasingly acrimonious debate between some leaders on how to agree on such measures.
It is expected that various meetings will occur on the sidelines of the G20, that may take into account some of these political discussions.
The G20, in addition to the EU (European Union), is composed of 19 member states, which include Russia, China, Japan, France, Germany, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Australia, Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and South Korea.
